Weekly petrol prices

The average price of unleaded petrol in Australia fell 4.6¢ to 142.1¢ a litre nationally in the week ending August 5, according to the Australian Institute of Petroleum’s ‘Weekly Petrol Prices’ report.

The average national weekly metropolitan retail price fell 5.9¢ to 139.7¢ a litre, with the regional price also down 1.8¢ to 147.2¢ a litre.

The most expensive unleaded in the country was in the NT at 163.6¢ a litre, followed by Tasmania (158.1¢), WA (147.3¢), SA (143.4¢), Queensland (142.5¢), NSW/ACT (141.6¢) and Victoria (137.8¢).

Of the major cities, Melbourne offered the cheapest unleaded for the week at 135.8¢ a litre, followed by Sydney (137.3¢), Brisbane (139.1¢), Adelaide (142.8¢), Perth (145.4¢), Canberra (152.9¢), Darwin (156.6¢) and Hobart (158.5¢).
